• Sienna's Story

Sienna is an amazing 11 year old girl who loves family, friends, traveling, swimming, horseback riding and dance parties. Sienna was delivered via emergency c-section at 30 weeks weighing 2 pounds 13 ounces and sustained extensive damage at the moment of her identical sister’s passing in utero.

At one point, in the NICU, the doctors advised that we go see her immediately since they were concerned for her survival but as with each challenge that Sienna faced, she fought through it and inspired us to fight along with her. In fact, there is a picture that embodies the fighter in Sienna - she has her arm raised with a closed fist (while laying in an incubator!) as if she is leading a revolution and, in a way, she was because many doctors didn’t know if she would overcome the adversities she was facing.

Aside from the cerebral palsy diagnosis, Sienna was facing other issues, some as after effects of an ischemic stroke, including: chronic kidney disease (currently stable at stage 2), apnea, clotting, developmental delays, ambulatory challenges (she knee-walks and is working on stand-up walking), muscle and tone issues that inhibit or prohibit things like speaking, self-feeding and other day-to-day functions we often take for granted.

In spite of all of these challenges, Sienna’s determination and passion has helped her surpass all doctors’ expectations and she continues to amaze us. She is a happy and loving girl who is working on becoming an independent walker and dancer and although she is extremely shy (or vocally protesting!) with unfamiliar persons, but once she trusts and opens up to you, her spirit and energy truly shines.

Sienna, like all the other Angels here, is truly a testament of what is possible and a reminder that life is a miracle to be enjoyed!
