Our Mission

Our mission is to financially assist local children with life-long physical disabilities, beyond what insurance covers. Our vision is to compile a vast database of hospitals, corporate entities, housing options when traveling, along with a network of volunteers and parents nationwide who will come together and support “Bella’s Buddies."

Our History

When Kerry Cavallo’s four-year-old daughter, Bella, was diagnosed with CHARGE Syndrome—a rare genetic condition affecting approximately one in every 9,000 to 10,000 births—their lives were forever altered. The Cavallo family was suddenly faced with overwhelming medical and travel expenses, creating a heavy financial burden. Along their journey, they met other families struggling with similar challenges. Kerry knew something had to change.

Motivated to make a difference, she founded Bella’s Angels in 2005. Today, Bella’s Angels is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides critical financial support to children in our community living with lifelong physical disabilities. In addition to funding medical needs, the organization offers a range of services for families, including emotional support, parent-to-parent mentoring, and connections to vital community resources. To date, Bella’s Angels has positively impacted the lives of countless children across Palm Beach County—affectionately known as “Bella’s Buddies.”

A major turning point came in 2021 when the organization hired its first Programs Coordinator, marking the beginning of an exciting phase of growth. In February 2023, Bella’s Angels launched Thea’s Night Out, a Community Respite Program hosted monthly at St. Peter’s Methodist Church in Wellington, FL. This free initiative provides parents with a well-deserved evening off, knowing their children are safe and cared for in a supportive environment.

Momentum continued into 2024, with Thea’s Night Out expanding to a second location at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Palm Beach Gardens. That October, the Programs Coordinator transitioned into a full-time role and became the organization’s first Programs Director. By November, the Administrative Assistant also joined the full-time team, and in February 2025, Bella’s Angels welcomed its first Director of Development. Another historic milestone was reached on March 1, 2025, when the organization moved into its first official office space in West Palm Beach.

Today, Bella’s Angels proudly serves 48 families across Palm Beach County—up from 26 just two years ago. Our mission remains steadfast: to walk alongside children with special needs and their families, ensuring they never face their journey alone.

We are especially dedicated to supporting families in the middle-income bracket—those who earn too much to qualify for public assistance but still struggle to cover their child’s medical expenses. Bella’s Angels fills this critical gap, so parents are never forced to choose between paying for basic necessities and providing their child with the essential care they need to thrive.

What We Do

In addition to raising funds to help cover medical expenses not covered by insurance for our Buddies, Bella’s Angels provides vital family support services. These include emotional support, parent-to-parent assistance, and guidance on accessing community resources.

Navigating care for a child with special needs can be overwhelming. At Bella’s Angels, we draw from years of hands-on experience with Bella and other families facing similar challenges. We use that knowledge—and our trusted network of contacts—to help make the journey a little smoother for our Buddies and their families.
